POV: people underestimate you…
“Cute side hustle”…
“Too risky”…
“Naive; a dreamer”…
“Just lucky”…
“Kindness is a weakness”…
For most of my life, people underestimated me.
I remember my grandpa calling me a “dark horse” after my dad passed away when I just turned 20, a label that at the time seemed like a small acknowledgment, but it stuck with me.
While others in my family lived the more traditional paths—in love, owning homes, and steady lives… I was always doing my own thing, carving my own way.
I didn’t fit into their mold. Every step I took outside of the norm seemed like a challenge to others, but to me, it was simply living authentically.
When I decided to quit my high flying corporate job, people thought it was just a cute, fun side hustle. But in just nine months, I went all in, full time with my business, surpassing my corporate salary and proving that this “cute fun side hustle” wasn’t just a phase.
I don’t fit the mold of what a successful entrepreneur looks like. As a woman and that of colour, I was seen as someone small, and ought to be small and submissive.
I was expected to be quiet, not be too much, blend in, to shrink myself to fit a box.
But I didn’t let the world’s perception of me define my worth or my abilities.
Instead, I let my kindness, my integrity, and my refusal to be underestimated fuel my growth.
Today, I’m living the freedom lifestyle I always dreamed of—spending half my year abroad, thriving in abundance. I have a business built on integrity, a business that doesn’t compromise who I am or what I stand for.
I’m constantly growing, constantly proving that kindness, compassion, and authenticity are not weaknesses in business—they are strengths.
I’m a living testament to the fact that the world might underestimate you, but if you believe in yourself and stay true to your values, you can create a life that exceeds all expectations ❤️🔥
