Nobody talks enough about the grief of becoming the strong one.

It doesn’t arrive loudly.

It doesn’t announce itself.

It settles in slowly, like a habit you never meant to form.

At first, you were simply helpful.

Then dependable.

Then you became the one who could handle it.

The responsible one.

The reliable one.

The person everyone turned to when things fell apart.

And somewhere along the way, people stopped asking how you were doing before they started unloading their lives into your hands.

You learnt how to comfort people when you were struggling yourself.

How to keep showing up when you were exhausted.

How to say “I’m fine” in a voice that convinced everyone except you.

There is a strange invisibility in being strong.

Not because people don’t care.

But because they become so used to seeing you hold everything together that they forget you might need support too.

The grief is not in the strength itself.

The grief is in the unlearning.

The slow realisation that you were never meant to carry it all alone.

That even the strongest people deserve somewhere safe to put down the weight.

Somewhere, there is a version of you who didn’t always have to be composed.

Who was allowed to be uncertain.
Somewhere, there is a version of you who didn’t always have to be composed.
Who was allowed to be uncertain.
Who was held instead of always holding.

Maybe you have not lost her, maybe she has only been waiting beneath everything you had to become. Waiting for the moments you finally exhale without bracing for what comes next. Waiting for you to realise that softness was never something you outgrew, only something you set aside to survive.

Now little by little, you can let her return, not as weakness, but as a quieter kind of strength that does not need to prove anything at all.
